i can’t help but wonder what it’s like to be a p.e. teacher here. in general, p.e. teachers seem to be the step-children of schools. they’re an interesting breed of people. i would say this about any profession where a person wears shorts to work 90 percent of the time. and is it company policy to never take the whistle off?
the p.e. teacher here seems to be quite the character. some other teachers that live here were talking about how there are black koreans and white koreans. he would definitely be a black korean. he is the slick type. wears his shades indoors. at a teacher dinner, he spent the whole evening with them resting on the back of his neck. trill to death. he drives the korean equivalent to a cadillac. the color? murder black, of course. he is possibly too cool if there is such a thing.
i wonder how he’s viewed by the other teachers and society as a whole here. the high school students go to school 12+ hours a day and study constantly over the weekends and at night. academics are first and life is a distant second. where does that put the p.e. teacher? is he valued? do people think he’s necessary? let me go on the record by saying that i do. the tiny koreans need a chance to see the light of day. but hey, i’m just passing through, holding a debatable position myself.
